Intern – Public Involvement

The Transportation Department of the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is seeking an Intern to support its public involvement and government relations program. Primary work functions include assisting with social media, department publications, media relations and other digital communications, and contributing to major communications and public relations activities. Qualified candidates must be attending an accredited college or university while in the position and able to work at the NCTCOG offices in Arlington, Texas. Ideal candidates should be able to work at least 25 hours per week while attending school.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Drafting publication, website, and social media content
  • Assisting with the development of social media graphics and messaging
  • Assisting with the development and maintenance of social media policy and strategy documents
  • Assisting with the collection and reporting of social media data including department efforts and for specific campaigns
  • Assisting with the development of an overall social media strategy and editorial calendar
  • Researching new opportunities and best practices for social media platforms
  • Assisting with the gathering of transportation-related news stories for staff distribution
  • Assisting in the development and maintenance of databases, including entering data, for a variety of initiatives
  • Maintaining reports on the outreach and effectiveness of public involvement efforts
  • Assisting with web updates
  • Assisting with evaluation of communications/outreach elements through data tracking and analysis
  • Assisting with elements of marketing/outreach campaigns

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher and Outlook
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and Canva preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Detail oriented, organized, creative, and ability to handle multiple tasks and tight deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment

Required Experience

  • Must be attending an accredited college or university during employment. Pursuit of a degree in public relations, communications or a related field is preferred, but not required.
  • No work experience required, at least one year of school-related experience preferred

Starting Salary

Minimum of $15.00 per hour

Salary

Starting Salary: $73,435.00- $99,137.00 depending on skills, qualifications and experience.
