The West Central Texas Council of Governments is seeking applications for the position of Executive Director. The Executive Director is responsible for the overall leadership, direction, administration, coordination, and implementation of all Council programs. The Executive Director oversees the development of future projects and/or programs necessary to the future of the organization, the West Central Texas region, and its membership.

The West Central Texas Council of Governments is a public entity organized in 1966 under the authority of Article 1011m, Vernon’s Annotate Civil Statutes and S.B. 547 amending 1011m. Its membership is made up of cities, counties, and special governmental districts from 19 counties of West Central Texas including Brown, Callahan, Coleman, Comanche, Eastland, Fisher, Haskell, Jones, Kent, Knox, Mitchell, Nolan, Runnels, Scurry, Shackelford, Stephens, Stonewall, Taylor and Throckmorton, an area encompassing 18,000 square miles. The Council addresses issues such as regional economic development, community development, hazard mitigation, emergency planning, water use, 9-1-1 services, pollution control, law enforcement training and community programs for senior citizens, persons with disabilities and veteran’s homelessness.

The Council’s governance structure consists of a Board of Directors, made up of elected representatives of our member units of government and an Executive Committee. The Executive Committee is the governing body of the Council and is responsible for the general policies and programs of the Council and the control of its funds, with the exception of those items specifically designated for action by the Board of Directors.

This is a regular, full-time, exempt position with a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, life, short and long-term disability, paid time off, 13 paid holidays per year, Texas County and District Retirement plan with agency match and a salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
