Job Description

The North Central Texas Council of Governments Transportation Department is seeking an entry- or mid-level Transportation Planner to assist in advancing and coordinating the Congestion Management and Asset Management Program within the Dallas-Fort Worth region. This posting is for the entry-level Transportation Planner I. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assisting with the programming and monitoring of congestion and asset management programs and projects related to initiatives identified in the regional Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) and the Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP)
  • Assisting with the development and maintenance of the Congestion Management Process
  • Assisting with the development, maintenance, and utilization of congestion and asset management databases and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in Microsoft Access, ESRI ArcGIS, and other advanced programs
  • Assisting with the monitoring, tracking, and evaluation of projects and programs in the regional Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) and the Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) for compliance with the Congestion Management Process
  • Providing assistance in the tracking and reporting of federal, state and regional performance measures and goals associated with pavement and bridge infrastructure conditions
  • Coordinating with partner agencies in the region and state regarding Congestion Management Process and Asset Management activities
  • Assisting with consultant oversight
  • Assisting with the development of program area budgets and monitoring of expenditures
  • Preparing and delivering various presentations
  • Drafting correspondence, documentation, reports, articles, and executive summaries
  • Planning and attending meetings and events

  • Must be detail oriented and highly organized, with ability to multi-task on short deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in analytical, quantitative methods
  • One year of job-related experience or less
