Job Description
The North Central Texas Council of Governments Transportation Department is seeking a Senior Transportation Planner to support implementation of transit projects and/or administration of federal transit grant program activities. This position will work with internal staff, public and private transportation providers, local governments, communities, and other stakeholders. In addition, responsibilities include meeting support and preparation of presentations, correspondence, documentation, articles, and reports. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Project Implementation and Management:

  • Implementing transit-focused strategies outlined in Access North Texas (www.accessnorthtexas.org)
  • Facilitating the coordination, implementation, and management of short-term transit-related projects from application and award through project closeout by tracking project progress, goals and deliverables
  • Leading the development and administration of procurements that support capital and operational needs of rural and urban public transportation providers
  • Building supportive community networks by coordinating resources, conducting outreach through public presentations, and finding innovative solutions to meet various transportation goals in communities
  • Developing traditional and innovative transit service delivery in a multimodal environment across a multi-county region

Other Responsibilities may include:

  • Drafting technical reports and project status reports
  • Providing technical assistance and support within the agency and to external partners
  • Conducting oversight and compliance activities consistent with Federal Transit Administration program guidelines
  • Leading analysis and interpretation of federal, State and local regulations and administrative matters pertaining to transportation planning and funding
  • Setting project/program direction and priorities through strategic planning
  • Assisting with budget development
  • Supervising staff
Required Skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal staff, partner agencies, the public, and stakeholders
  • Ability to derive insights and meaningful interpretation of data by performing analysis on various sources
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with short- and long-range transportation planning
  • Sensitivity to cultural, socioeconomic and political issues in the community
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Innovative and proactive problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Demonstrated leadership and decision-making skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
  • Implementing regional and/or public transportation projects
  • Working with federal, State or local transportation programs
  • Working with transit-dependent populations
Required Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in analytical, quantitative methods (Transportation Planning, Urban/Regional Planning, Public Administration, Business, Finance, Engineering, or related area)
  • At least three years of job-related experience

Salary

Minimum of $55,184.00 annually

The planning area for transportation includes the 12 counties of Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Hood, Hunt, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant, and Wise.
