Intern-Metropolitan Transportation Plan

The Transportation Department of the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is seeking an Intern to support the development of the Metropolitan Transportation Plan and long-range transit development projects. The individual in the position will have the opportunity to apply long-range planning principles and complete technical analyses that support the recommendations of the Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP), including the development of the next plan, Mobility 2050. Applicants wishing to be considered for this position should apply online at https://www.nctcog.org/Careers. Ideal candidates should be able to work at least 25 hours per week while attending school, with most of that time being in the office. NCTCOG offices are located in Arlington, Texas.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assisting with transit planning analyses, including supporting travel demand modeling
  • Supporting the development of evaluation processes for future passenger rail corridors in the region
  • Assisting in the development and maintenance of databases for roadway and transit project recommendations
  • Assisting with the development and review of MTP documents
  • Assisting with the development of graphs, charts, tables, and maps to support analyses or plan products
  • Assisting with Web page design, edits, and updates
  • Assisting with public engagement and outreach efforts for the MTP

Required Skills

  • Familiarity in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
  • Knowledge of ArcGIS preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Detail-oriented, strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks and tight deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment

Required Experience

  • Must be attending an accredited college or university during employment. Pursuit of a degree in transportation planning, civil engineering, city planning, public administration or a related field is preferred.
  • No work experience required, at least one year of school-related experience preferred

Starting Salary

Minimum of $16.00 per hour
