JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE:  COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR

PAY GRADE:  E6

DIVISION:  PLANNING & OPERATIONS DIVISION

SUPERVISOR:  PUBLIC SAFETY DIRECTOR

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Act as technical liaison/coordinator for circuit installation ad problem determination with phone and power companies as well as tower crews for installation and/or maintenance of tower, antenna/cable systems, lighting, etc.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Be experienced and able to use professional test equipment in systematic and component level testing and use gained information for a complete diagnose of technical problems.

Have a thorough and practical knowledge of RF, analog, and digital electronics theory.

Be well experienced in the technical principals of microwave, multiplex, 2-way radio, telephone key systems, and telephone PBX.

Must stay abreast of projects and operational requirements of the telecommunications users in MRGDC area to ensure that all communications needs are met adequately and economically within the scope of the projects.

Have a thorough understanding of electronic theory and various communications systems and be able to communicate those understandings in laypersons terms.

Have experience and the ability to install and test data channel interconnect equipment using data circuit universal test sets for measuring amplitude, delay and phase distortion.

Experience and able to perform numerous administrative functions such as: RFPs, system test and licensing records, preventive maintenance reports, inventory maintenance, grant proposal writing, correspondence and letter writing and personal records such as time and expense reports.

Have above average driving skills with an excellent driving history. Because equipment failures often occur during severe weather conditions and will not wait for conditions to improve. Also, considerable routine driving to cover vast areas will be necessary.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Holds a General Radiotelephone Operator License. Minimum of 20 years of extensive and varied experience in the telecommunications technical field.

Be experienced in the operation and theory of professional test equipment including:
• Spectrum Analyzers
• Data Test Sets
• RF and Signal Generators Cable Sweep Equipment Transmission Line Testers Oscilloscopes
• Frequency Counters
• Digital & Analog Volt Ohm Meters
• Frequency Level Meters
• Communications Service Monitors
• Power Meters
