The Emergency Communications Division of CAPCOG, which is also a designated Emergency Communications District, is seeking an Assistant Director of Operations. The Emergency Communications Division works with agencies throughout the 10-county Capital Area Emergency Communications District which oversees and funds the region’s 9-1-1 program. It provides operational planning and technical assistance to 31 Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) to ensure 9-1-1 calls reach the right PSAP with correct location and caller information. The Assistant Director’s work involves managing activities associated with an emergency services network and equipment used in the delivery and processing of 9-1-1 calls for service; overseeing network design, policy development, resolving problems to maintain and improve quality of the system and coordinating vendor support services. The Assistant Director will supervise three Operations Coordinators to manage the provision, installation, monitoring, and maintenance of multiple service providers in a Next Generation 9-1-1 network environment.
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science, information systems, or closely related field.
Required: Minimum of five years’ experience in local and/or wide area network operations and/or telecommunications; with an emphasis in emergency 9-1-1 operations. Three years’ experience in management of a business function or unit relevant to 9-1-1.
Preferred: Emergency Number Professional (ENP) certification.
Salary range: $85,000 – $91,800 depending on qualifications
