Job Description

The North Central Texas Council of Governments Transportation Department is seeking a mid-level Transportation Planner to support implementation of transit projects and administration of federal transit grant program activities. This position will work with public and private transportation providers, local governments, communities, and other stakeholders. In addition, responsibilities include preparing presentations, correspondence, documentation, articles, and reports. The individual in this position would be classified as a Transportation Planner III. Applicants considering this position should apply online at https://mycogcareer.silkroad.com/. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Project Implementation and Management:

  • Implementing transit-focused strategies outlined in Access North Texas (accessnorthtexas.org)
  • Facilitating the coordination, implementation, and management of short-term transit-related projects
  • Supporting community networks

Program Administration, Funding and Reporting:

  • Building and maintaining databases of project listings, and funding awards for the purpose of grant administration, monitoring, and tracking
  • Facilitating the annual programming of federal funds to public transportation providers
  • Developing and administering strategic partnerships with various partners throughout the region
  • Facilitating the collection of various transit-related performance measures

Other Responsibilities:

  • Drafting technical reports and project status reports, for supervisor review
  • Providing technical assistance and support within the agency and to external partners
  • Conducting oversight and compliance activities consistent with grantor program guidelines
  • Leading research, analysis and interpretation of federal, State and local regulations pertaining to transportation planning and funding

Required Skills

Required Experience

  • Experience in implementing regional and/or public transportation projects desired
  • Experience in working with federal, State, and local transportation programs and regulations desired
  • Experience in working with transit-dependent populations desired

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in analytical and quantitative methods (i.e., Business, Economics, Finance, Engineering, Transportation Planning, Urban/Regional Planning, Public Administration, or related area)
  • At least one year of job-related experience
