Serving close to 7 million people in our region, the Houston Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) is the cornerstone to address issues that cross city limits and county lines every day. H-GAC is made up of 13 county governments, 107 cities, and 11 school districts. H-GAC is seeking an Outreach Coordinator to join the transportation department’s public outreach team. Through cooperation with local governments, H-GAC’s transportation department improves the quality of life for residents across the region. Improving mobility and creating multimodal transportation options are core elements in H-GAC’s transportation programs.
The Outreach Coordinator will coordinate multiple transportation outreach campaigns that will reach a wide variety of audiences. The coordinator will write communication plans that outline the goal, objectives, strategies, tactics, and measurable objectives. The candidate will develop and manage content for a multitude of platforms including digital and social media, publications, flyers, news releases, and the department’s website. The ideal candidate will have experience in identifying target audiences, developing messages to reach those intended audiences, using the appropriate communication outlets to share messages, and demonstrate the ability to measure the effectiveness of a communication plan or campaign. The candidate will also have experience working in advertising along with program branding. The candidate will demonstrate past experiences in writing communication plans. The Outreach Coordinator will also work closely with public relations and advertising firms in development of some campaigns and outreach projects.
The Outreach Coordinator will possess strong interpersonal skills and be able to work closely with peers and mangers to accomplish outreach goals, as well as, the ability to represent the agency to external audiences at community events and meetings. The Outreach Coordinator will participate in public outreach events, activities, public meetings, and networking events.
The successful candidate will have at a minimum:
Bachelor’s degree in Communications or Public Relations or related field
Three years’ (3) experience in communications, public relations, or outreach
Knowledge of working with multicultural audiences
Ability to strategize, plan, and measure the effectiveness of a communication plan
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
Proficiency in social and digital media platforms
Comfortable making presentations in public and to groups
Preferred Qualifications Include:
Five (5) years’ experience in communications, public relations, or outreach
Experience working with consultants, contractors, and vendors
Experience working in the government sector, especially in a transportation related field
Experience with Experience in graphics software including Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
