DUTIES: Performs entry-level motor vehicle maintenance and repair work. Work involves repairing or replacing worn or broken parts; performing preventive maintenance activities; and servicing motor vehicle equipment and related gasoline, diesel, or alternative fuel engine-powered equipment. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs routine motor vehicle maintenance such as repairing or replacing tires, hoses, belts, and filters.Performs minor repairs to suspension and driveline components such as replacing universal joints, shocks, struts, and bushings. Performs minor body repair work and touch-up painting. Performs safety and emission inspections. Repairs or replaces brake components. Services, refuels, and changes oil in vehicles. Cleans and maintains shop, equipment, and tools. Assists in major motor vehicle repairs. Assists in documenting repairs and routine maintenance of vehicles and equipment. May assist in performing routine welding, air-conditioning checks and repairs. May operate electronic or computerized diagnostic equipment and computer-based technical manuals to identify or verify system and component failures. May inventory parts and equipment.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Experience in motor vehicle maintenance and repair work. Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent, supplemented by technical courses in motor vehicle maintenance and repair, is generally preferred. Experience and education may be substituted for one another.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of motor vehicle maintenance, of repair techniques, and of safety practices and principles.
Skill in the use of tools and equipment.
Ability to follow instructions, to make repairs, and to use tools and equipment.
The ability to communicate in English and Spanish is preferred.

REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION, OR LICENSURE:

May be required to be registered, certified, or licensed in a transit area.
Valid/Current Texas CDL Class B Driver’s License.
