Intern-Public Involvement

The Transportation Department of the North Central Texas Council of Governments is seeking an Intern to support its public involvement program. Primary work functions include contributing to communications and outreach efforts for transportation projects and programs. Ideal candidates should be able to work at least 20 hours per week while attending school, with most of that time being in the office. NCTCOG offices are located in Arlington, Texas.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assisting with planning public meetings for various projects and programs
  • Participating in business outreach efforts, including site visits and stakeholder meetings
  • Assisting with the implementation of marketing and public relations campaigns
  • Assisting in the design and update of monthly public input emails, flyers, and postcard templates
  • Assisting in the maintenance of databases for a variety of projects and programs, including the department’s online engagement platform, PublicInput.com
  • Assisting with the evaluation of communication and outreach strategies through data tracking and analysis

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher, and Outlook
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Detail oriented, organized, creative, and ability to handle multiple tasks and tight deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment

Required Experience

  • Must be attending an accredited college or university during employment. Pursuit of a degree in public relations, communications or a related field is preferred, but not required.
  • No work experience required, at least one year of school-related experience preferred

Starting Salary

Minimum of $16.00 per hour

The planning area for transportation includes the 12 counties of Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Hood, Hunt, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant, and Wise.
