The North Central Texas Council of Governments Transportation Department is seeking an entry or mid-level Freight Planner to develop and implement strategies to support economic development, transportation safety, and air quality initiatives related to the movement of freight. The selected individual’s official position with the Agency would be as a Transportation Planner I and this posting is for the entry-level Planner I position. - Veterans with logistics and freight experience will be strongly considered but must meet the education and experience requirements listed below.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following
- Assisting with follow-up studies to Freight North Texas and the regional freight system inventory
- Assisting with system planning as it relates to freight movements in the region
- Assisting with freight rail and truck corridor planning, which includes at-grade crossing safety, truck parking, freight-oriented developments, intermodal hubs, and hazardous materials routing
- Assisting with the development of efficient freight planning solutions for the North Central Texas region
- Assisting with freight technical analyses related to safety, operations, and traffic
- Participating in data collection, maintenance, mapping, and analysis activities
- Assisting in the development of goals and objectives, work plans, and strategies
- Preparing various presentations and documents
- Updating Website information
- Planning and attending meetings, events, and workshops
- Required Skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Critical-thinking and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
- Strong technical skills
- Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- Required Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in analytical, quantitative methods (i.e., Transportation Planning, Logistics Planning, Supply Chain Management, Geography or a related area)
- One year of job-related experience or less
- Transportation/freight knowledge, with an interest in planning
Salary: Minimum of $36,976.00 annually
