Job Description: The North Central Texas Council of Governments is a voluntary association of, by and for local governments, and was established to assist local governments in planning for common needs, cooperating for mutual benefit, and coordinating for sound regional development.  NCTCOG’s purpose is to strengthen both the individual and collective power of local governments and to help them recognize regional opportunities, eliminate unnecessary duplication, and make joint decisions.  NCTCOG is located in the Dallas / Fort Worth area.

The Department of Environment and Development is seeking experienced professionals to join its team as an Environment & Development Planner II.  Successful applicants will work under the general direction of the Senior Planner of Environment and Development Programs to pursue a variety of goals to achieve Sustainable Environmental Excellence in this region.  Assignments may include a variety of topics, including but not limited to, water resources planning for storm water quality and quantity, solid waste management, public works coordination, or planning for the growth that promotes quality of life improvement initiatives. This posting is for the Environment and Development Planner II position and applicants wishing to be considered for this position should apply online.

The purpose of this position is to assist and participate in team efforts with more senior professional staff in the completion of projects and assignments related to the Department of Environment & Development. This will be accomplished through planning and preparing materials for meetings, conducting research, and administrative work to include reviewing and revising documents. Other duties include assisting others to facilitate the outreach of NCTCOG within the region, program planning and development, monitoring the schedules of deliverables and budgets of contracts, grant writing, and representing the Agency beyond the region.

Required Skills: Applicants must possess strong verbal and written communication skills, computer skills, critical thinking and problem solving skills, and the ability to work in a team environment.  Intermediate to advanced level in Microsoft Office computer software is required.  Must be comfortable with basic presentation skills to internal and external groups.

Required Experience: Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field.  Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study along with a minimum of a year of related work experience in the environment and development fields and/or local government operations.
